Lu Meng

Lu Meng was a thinker and artist born in Yongkang of Zhekiang Province in 1915. He served career positions such as Director of the Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy and Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Artists Association. During the Sino-Japanese War era, he created a historically significant woodblock print piece themed on the contemporary life and people of the period. Later, he also did some sketching, watercolors, and Chinese Painting. He felt that the thought behind an art piece should be one in form and context, as they are inseparable. His works exuded a lasting Chinese classical charm, but contained the hues and tones of Western art. They manifested a style that is similar to woodblock color printing, showing a sense of moving vitality running free spontaneously and naturally.
